Variation swatches can be an effective way to keep customers interested and increase sales for an e-commerce store that offers products with multiple variations. By placing product options into swatches, customers can more easily visualize available options. This leads to a smoother shopping experience and higher conversion rates as customers choose their preferred variation.

What are variation swatches?

WooCommerce swatches are an improved way of presenting additional product options on your WooCommerce store. By using product variation swatches rather than the traditional WooCommerce dropdown fields, your product pages become more interactive and user-friendly.

Color swatches provide an enhanced visual representation of available product options, making it easier for customers to distinguish and choose the product characteristics they desire.

Variations swatches example

Image swatches allow you to display a small image with each variation that customers can click on to select.

Install variation swatches for WooCommerce plugin

To use variations swatches for your WooCommerce site you have to install a plugin. In WordPress navigate to Plugins > Add New and search for Variation Swatches for WooCommerce By Emran Ahmed

Variation Swatches for WooCommerce-by Emran Ahmed

Install and activate this plugin.

Creating WooCommerce attributes

You need to create WooCommerce attributes first in order to use the variations swatches. When you create a new attribute you have some extra options in the Type dropdown field.

Choose Color.

Set type to color in the attribute

After you have created the color attribute you have to configure some color terms.

Click on Configure Terms.

Create some colors

Here you can create the colors for your attribute.

Create colors for your attribute

Your color attribute is now set. To display the color attribute on your product page I recommend following my tutorial “How to Create WooCommerce Product Attributes“.

Additional variations settings

If you navigate to GetWooPlugins > Swatches Settings you will find additional settings for this plugin.

I am not going to cover them all in this tutorial, but here you can find them. The options are pretty much straightforward.

Variation Swatches for WooCommerce Settings

Color swatches on the shop page

If you want the color swatches to be visible on the products on the shop page then you have to purchase the Pro version of this plugin.

Color swatches on the home page

With the pro version, you can also change the image by selecting the color. For example, if you choose a blue color then it will change the image.

See the demo site for a live example.

Conclusion

If you’re looking to improve the customer shopping experience on your WooCommerce store, consider adding product variation swatches. By highlighting product attributes in an easy-to-use visual format, customers can quickly find what they’re looking for and complete their purchase more efficiently.

These swatches can be used in many ways, such as filtering products, displaying options without creating variations, and improving how variation options are displayed on your store. Ultimately, this creates a better user experience and leads to informed purchase decisions.

Creating and managing WooCommerce product attributes is an important piece of the puzzle. It’s a great way to make sure customers find what they need on your shop page quickly and easily. Plus, having the right attribute data lets you create powerful product filters that can help boost sales.

When created correctly, global attributes let users filter by category or type with ease so they get the exact products they want in fewer clicks. With these features set up correctly it’ll be easier than ever for customers to find exactly what they’re looking for no matter how large or small their selection may be!

Check out this guide on How To Create WooCommerce Product Attributes and start powering up your WooCommerce store today!

What are WooCommerce product attributes?

In WooCommerce, product attributes are a useful tool for providing additional information on your products, such as color, size, and material. The feature allows for new variations, and grouping, and gives customers more information, helping them make informed purchasing decisions.

For example, if you sell t-shirts with different attributes such as sizes, colors, patterns, materials, or brands, the attribute features help in organizing and presenting products in a clear and accessible manner.

How to create custom product attributes in your WooCommerce store

Creating custom attributes is easy to do, just follow these steps.

Step 1: Creating the attribute

In WordPress navigate to Products > Attributes

Name: Place the name of your attribute in the name field.

Slug: This is just the URL of your attribute (I always name it the same as the attribute)

Archives: To display all products associated with an attribute on a single page, check the “Enable Archives” box. This determines if the attribute will have a unique presence in your store.

Default sort order: To specify how attributes are displayed, you can pick from one of four options: Custom ordering, Name, Name (numeric), or Term ID.

For custom ordering, you can drag and drop items to arrange them however you like.

WooCommerce automatically lists attributes alphabetically if you choose Name. If you select Name (numeric), attributes are listed in numerical order. Choosing Term ID sorts attributes according to their term IDs.

Create a product attribute

When you are done click on the button Add attribute.

Step 2: Configure the attribute terms

Now we need to add attribution terms to the attribute.

Click on Configure terms.

Configure the product attribute

On the next screen, you can add the attribute terms. In my example, this will be different colors.

This is the same principle as step 1 you need to place a name and slug.

Click on the button Add new color. The button name will likely be different for you depending on the name of your attribute.

add a color attribute

You can add as many terms to your global attribute as you wish.

attribute terms

You can arrange the order of the attribute terms by hovering over them and on the right you will see 3 horizontal bars, click and drag to change the order.

You have now created a custom product attribute and in the next chapter, we are going to include it on a product page.

How to display product attributes on the product pages

Now that we have created a product attribute it is time to show it on a product page. Navigate to Products > All Products and open one of your products.

In the product data section go to the Attributes tab.

Click on Add existing.

You will get a list of all your attributes in my case this is just one. Select the one that you want to add to this product.

display attibutes on the product page

Then click on the Select All button this will populate the field with all the attribute terms. You can remove the ones you do not need for this product.

Custom product attribute

Make sure Visible on the product page is checked.

If you also check Used for variations then you can create variations of each attribute term. For example, stock management or price.

You will only see this option if you have selected Variable Product.

When you are done click on Save attribute.

If you want to turn the default dropdown into swatches you can follow my tutorial Variation Swatches for WooCommerce

For variable products

If you are using a variable product there is an additional step to take after creating the attribute.

Go to the variations tab.

And click on Add manually.

variable product

When you have added a variation, you can choose if this one is for all terms or for a specific one.

Each variation can have a different price or stock.

In my case, each color could have a different stock.

You can open a variation by clicking on the Edit tab. From here you can add a price or stock.

In my example below I have set it to any color which means the price and stock will be the same for all the colors.

product variation options

How to display WooCommerce attributes in filters on the shop page

You can add a product attribute filter widget to your shop page sidebar.

Go to Appearance > Widgets

Click on the + icon to add a new widget and click on the Browse All button.

Search for widget

Then search for the widget Filter by Attribute.

Product filter by attribute

When the widget is added you can select the attributes you want to display.

Filter attribute settings

And on the front end, it should look like this:

attribute filter

Conclusion

Now that you know everything there is to know about WooCommerce Product Attributes – how to create them, how to display them on the product page, and how to add them as filter options on the Shop page – you are now ready to start building a better online store and helping your customers find the exact products they need with ease!

Taking the time to understand WooCommerce Product Attributes will pay off in the end, leading to improved user experiences, increased conversions, and more sales. All in all, product attributes are incredibly powerful features of WooCommerce that shouldn’t be overlooked!

In this tutorial, I will be covering how you can optimize your sales funnel for your WooCommerce Divi website.

With this funnel, you will increase your sales and AOV (average order value) for your webshop.

What we will be covering in this tutorial:

WooCommerce checkout funnel

The funnel builder

To create this funnel I will be using the Funnel Builder from BuildWooFunnels (this is also the software that I use on my own websites).

The great thing about this software is that it is fully compatible with Divi. All the premade templates we can use are built with Divi. So we can also edit them with the Divi builder.

After installing this plugin you can create your first funnel.

Go to Woofunnels > Funnels and click on Add a new funnel.

Add a new funnel

Give your funnel a name and your first funnel is created. In the next step, we are going to create a custom checkout page with an order bump.

How to create a custom checkout page in WooCommerce

On the next screen, we can choose the first step in our funnel.

We will start our funnel with the checkout page (you can also begin with the opt-in or sales page).

Click on the checkouts tab and then switch to Divi (right-top).

Now you will get an overview of all the premade checkout pages that are built with Divi.

You can choose any premade template or build one from scratch.

Checkout funnel templates

Create a custom checkout form in WooCommerce

You can add, rearrange or remove checkout form fields easily with the funnel builder.

Open the checkout page and go to the Fields tab. Here you can build your custom checkout form.

Customize woocommerce checkout field

Add an order bump to your checkout page

With an order bump, you can add an extra small offer on the checkout page. Here is an image of the order bump that I use on my own checkout page.

Order bump on the checkout page

If you need some order bump ideas I recommended reading this post.

Creating an order bump is super easy to do in the Funnel Builder. Go to your funnel and open the checkout step. Now click on Add order bump.

Add an order bumb to the checkout page

Give your order bump a name and then click on the order bump to customize it. Now you need to add a product for your order bump (this is a product that needs to be created in WooCommerce > Products).

Add product for the order bumb

When you have done this you can further customize the order bump in the Design tab.

How to create a one-click upsell

The one-click upsell happens after the checkout but before the customer is sent to the thank you page.

Your customer should get an offer that complements the primary purchase.

For example, the primary sale was a pair of socks. As a one-click upsell you could offer 3 pairs of the same socks at a discounted price.

Another example, when you purchase a design on my site then you get my header layout pack with a discount as a one-click upsell.

Create the one-click upsell

Go to WooFunnels > Funnels and click on your funnel.

Click on add new step and choose One-Click Upsells.

Create one click funnel

Next, you need to add a product for your one-click upsell.

Add a new one click upsell product

Now you can set a discount for this one-click upsell. Under the product, you can set additional settings for your one-click upsell.

Settings for the one click upsell

Switch to the design tab and choose one of the premade templates for Divi or create one from scratch.

After choosing a template you can start customizing it.

How to create a custom thank you page

Go to WooFunnels > Funnels and click on your funnel.

Click on add new step and choose Thank You Page.

Now you can choose your thank you page template.

How to create a follow-up email campaign

With the Autonami extension, you can create targeted email campaigns for your customers.

I recommend using the following email campaigns (click on the links how to set up each of them).

With Autonami it is easy to set up these campaigns.

Below is an example of a Cart abandoned campaign.

This one will trigger when a cart is abandoned.

After 60 minutes there will be an email sent with a reminder of the abandoned cart.

If the cart is not recovered then another email will be sent after 24 hours with an evergreen coupon code.

If the cart is still not recovered the last reminder email will be sent that the coupon code is about to expire.

In this tutorial, I will be covering how you can create a custom add to cart link from any button or link and how you can redirect to the cart or checkout page. This is quite easy to do and does not require any plugin.

You will be able to create custom add to cart links on any page of your website.

Step 1: Find the product ID

Every product has its unique ID number and we will be needing this to create a custom add to cart link. Where to find the product ID depends on the type of product you have.

ID for simple products

In your WordPress dashboard navigate to Products and hover over the product you want to create a link from.

Get product ID in WooCommerce

ID for variable products

To get the ID for a variable product go to Products and open your product. In the variations tab, you can find the variation ID. Adding the links is the same as for simple products.

Get ID for variable product in WooCommerce

Step 2: Create a custom add to cart link

You need to place this ?add-to-cart=694 after your URL. You need to replace the ID number with yours. It will look something like this:

https://mydomain.com/?add-to-cart=694

Now you need to change the domain and ID number to yours.

Redirect to cart page

To redirect the link to the cart page after adding the product you can use this:

https://mydomain.com/cart/?add-to-cart=694

By default, the cart page should be https://mydomain/cart if you changed that URL then you need to adjust it.

Redirect to the checkout page

To redirect the link to the checkout page after adding the product you can use this:

https://mydomain.com/checkout/?add-to-cart=694

If your checkout page has a different URL then you need to change that in the link.

Change the quantity

If you want to increase the product quantity you can add this after the URL:

&quantity=5

In this case its a quantity of 5.

The whole URL will look like this depends if you want to redirect it.

https://mydomain.com/?add-to-cart=694&quantity=5

Do you want to create a custom checkout in Woocommerce?

The default checkout page in WooCommerce is not optimized for conversions, and you are not able to edit the fields or add extra information without a developer.

In this tutorial, we are going to build a custom WooCommerce checkout page with the plugin Aero Checkout.

With this plugin, you can create a one-page checkout or a multi-step checkout. It comes with many ready-to-go templates.

Download and install the Aero Checkout plugin.

Step 2: Choose a premade layout or create one from scratch

Go to Woofunnels > Checkouts

Here you will find ready-to-go checkout templates. You can edit each of them to your liking. Or you can create a new checkout page by clicking on the Add New button.

Step 3: Customize your checkout page

When you have chosen a checkout page you can customize it from the design tab. Click on the Edit button and it will bring you to the customizer.

Design checkout page

Products tab
In the product tab, you can choose if you want this checkout page to be shown for a certain product or store wide.

Fields tab
Here you can create and rearrange the fields for the checkout form.

In this tutorial we are going to build a custom WooCommerce thank you page. A thank-you page is a perfect place to thank your customer for there purchase but also turn your one-time buyers into repeat buyers.

This tutorial is the third part of our WooCommerce Sales Funnel Series.

Why You Should Replace The Default Thank You Page In WooCommerce?

Directing your buyers to the default thank you page is unwise if your goal is to retain your buyers as loyal customers.

Your default order confirmation page simply discloses order details, billing/shipping address, and the total amount spent. It doesn’t leave a lasting impression.

In the image below the default WooCommerce thank you page.

Default WooCommerce thank you page

It is a missed opportunity if you not engage your buyers on this page.

Since you are now aware of how beneficial Customized WooCommerce Thank You Pages are, you probably might be beating yourself up for not knowing how to optimize yours. Well, worry no more!

Through the use of NextMove plugin, I shall enlighten you on how to optimize your Thank You pages.

Below a customized WooCommerce thank you page packed with additional offers and coupon options.Turn Standard Thank You Pages Into Conversion-Assets.

Custom WooCommerce thank you page

1. Display Recently Viewed Items to Thirst Trap Buyers

One unique feature of online shoppers is that they are flexible.

An individual might come online to shop, with the intention of just getting a red dress. However, since they enjoy exploring several product pages and items before zeroing in on one, they end up wanting more items than their originally intended.

Displaying the recently viewed items on the Thank You Pages is a strategic idea to send them back into the funnel.

2. Personalized Coupon Code for First-Time Purchasers

Like they say, “first impression matters a lot.” Coupon codes are a great way to lure shoppers into purchasing from your website.

The thought of a discount is always pleasant to online shoppers. Paying less is always thrilling for it entails you get to save cost.

In fact, one of the best ways to forge a bond and earn the trust of a buyer is by redeeming a coupon code. Gestures like this are rewarding for they leave a positive impression on the shopper, and they are likely to buy from you again.

Also, when you go to the extra mile of personalizing the coupon code, you made your clients feel special. People love to feel special, so they will often shop from a site that gives them that feeling.

Coupon Codes can easily be personalized, simply use the buyer’s name, phone number, email as a coupon code.

3. Thank You Video

People love to be appreciated, it gives them a sense of value and importance.

Displaying a Thank You video to a customer after shopping shows gratitude. It also entails that you value their patronage, therefore they are likely to patronize you again.

A Thank You page is your chance to forge a bond with your customers, so that you become their favorite vendor.

In addition to saying thank you, you can create a video that gives helpful insight as regards the products they purchased. This way, they feel you truly care about them and not just their money

4. Get Recommended by shoppers

One of the best ways to get recommended by shoppers to their friends and family is by social shares. Strategically place social sharing buttons on your website.

You can warmly request your clients to share your posts/products with others. When your services are good people are willing to help you with such a small favor.

Mind you, Google interprets social share as a positive cue and your site is ranked higher.

5. Award Rewards for Social Sharing

The cost of paid ads can be saved when your buyers double as your biggest marketers.

Using coupon codes as a reward system, you can ignite your customers into marketing for you. They can do this by recommending you to their friends.

6. Activate Personalized Coupon Code

This entails offering a coupon code to customers that shop up to a specified amount. The discount rate varies according to the amount spent.

For instance, a customer whose purchase is valued at $200 can be issued a discount of 5%. Whereas, a shopper that made purchased worth  $500 can receive a discount of 15%, etc.

7. Prime Your Buyers

When a buyer makes a purchase on your store they are taken to your thank you page. Exploit this opportunity to promote your upcoming seasonal or special sales.

This is a great way to make such an event incredibly successful.

What’s the actual price of directing your customers to the thank you page after a purchase? To some sellers, it’s a complete transaction they are happy to have made. Smart sellers know that this is a lost opportunity to sell even more. At the end of every purchase, have a golden opportunity to make an upsell offer. When things go according to plan, upselling makes transaction stories even better.

One-click upsells on WooCommerce have been in use for some time now. If you haven’t been using this strategy, then this is the best secret for your business. The interesting part is that upsell funnels are easy to create. In this article, you will learn what upsells are, why you need them and how to create them.

This tutorial is the second part of our WooCommerce Sales Funnel Series.

WooCommerce funnel step one-click upsell

Already know what a one-click upsell is? Jump right to the step by step tutorial.

What Are One-Click Upsells?

Have you ever been convinced by a sales rep to upgrade to the next size of a product? That’s a kind of upsell. An upsell is a post-purchase offer for an additional product or service. They are sellers’ secret to increasing online sales revenue. Usually, upsells are tempting offers. The customer after making a purchase is enticed into making another. While buyers get more satisfaction from purchases, sellers earn more revenue.

Upsell offer should not come too soon or too late during the buyer’s journey. If it’s too early, you may lose the entire order. This is because, before purchase, upsells can seem like a distraction to customers. When it’s too late, it may not work the magic. The perfect timing wins their heart and closes the deal. The customer you offer upsells should have made and be willing to pay for an order. This makes the one-click upsells the better alternative.

In one-click upsells, the customers’ card details have been submitted for the main offer. Instead of directing them to the thank you page, you offer them other products. The idea is that these customers are in a purchasing frame of mind. Thus, there is a high probability to make another purchase.

The customer will not have to re-enter their card details if they decide to purchase more products. The new price is automatically added before directing them to the thank you page.

Here is an example of a one-click upsell offer and this is what we will be creating.

One-Click Upsell example

Benefits of Using One-Click Upsells

Increase in Customer lifetime value

Between getting new customers to visit your site and retaining the old ones which option is easier? It’s more expensive to attract customers to your site. The customers you present upsells to are yours already. You want to maximise their buying experience and the value of their patronage. You also want to give them reasons to come back. That’s the opportunity upsells give every seller.

Maximizes your average order

Upsells persuade customers into transactions they never intended from the onset. It’s just like chocolates at the cashier’s desk spur customers into impulse buying. Instead of the initial value of the customer’s order, you earn a higher value due to the addition. The customer leaves your store more satisfied.  You, on the other hand, would have more sales per order and that’s a win-win.

Increase in revenue

Post-purchase upsells have been shown to increase revenue by 20- 35%. Think of all the aforementioned benefits. Better customer experience, increased orders, less cost. This route leads only to the profit end of your accounts. The Upsells strategy brings sellers so much extra revenue.

The strategy Of The One-Click Upsell Funnel

In traditional market settings where sales reps try to make you patronize them. When they pitch one item and you reject it, they bring another one. They keep up with this process till you finally accept one or none. In online marketing, these are sales funnels.

Funnels are the sequence of offers presented to buyers who have completed their initial purchase. There are two types: downsell offers and upsell offers. These would be discussed later on in the article. Let’s have a look at the one-click upsell buyer’s journey through these funnels.

Upsell and Downsell funnel

Step 1: Installation And Setup Of Plugins

You must have installed WooCommerce on your WordPress site. There are many one-click upsell plugins that can be used on WooCommerce. The list continues to increase with cooler and more flexible tools. You can use smart offers plugins or WooCommerce Buy Now plugin and the Payment Gateways. Thereafter, activate all the plugins. Usually, there is an option of adding the upsells with parent orders. This allows the product to be added to the parent order at the same shipping cost.

My prefered plugin for One-Click Upsells is Upstroke from WooFunnels. I use this plugin myself and I will show you how you can set it up here.

Step 2: Product Selection

Product selection is an integral part of your funnel creation. One-click upsells work with the psychology of buyers. Therefore, products must be strategically selected else it loses its effectiveness.  here are the one-click upsell product selection strategies.

Products Alignment strategy

An upsell should be aligned with the initial purchase. You should only upsell products that complement the initial order. Unrelated products can seem annoying to your customers. It may even reduce their buying experience from your store. If a customer buys a face cream, you can sell them a face mask too.

It’s about helping people find products that solve their problems. This makes you look concerned about your customer’s satisfaction.

Sell more for less strategy

This is particularly effective for products like medicines, ointments and other consumables. It’s basically for products that require replenishment. If a buyer buys one pack of an ointment you can upsell them three packs. Your offer could include discount price, spelling quantity and flat shipping charges. The discount should be enough to make it worth considering. It’s one of the best upsell offers that don’t question the main purchase. It just helps customers stock up more of your products for at a lower price.

The Switch Strategy

The idea here is to offer the same product they just purchased in another format. If you sell books, you can one-click upsell the audio or digital version. For services like consulting, you can upsell audio, video or printed version of your session. If its tickets to events, you can upsell recordings.  Just look for the extra that you know they will love to have.

Faster and Easier Goal Achievement strategy

People buy products to achieve definite goals. Do you have other products that can make this goal more attainable? Can the process be faster or easier for them with another? Sometimes customers do not know what they really need. Others do not know they have better options or complements. It’s your place to sell them what will give them better results.

You can sell them speed and automation in a social media traffic course using an auto-posting app; One-click upsell a calendar or planner to help them achieve their time-bound goals. For a weight loss purchase, sell recipes, meal planners and grocery options.  You can sell them follow up emails to help them use the products better.

Great Pitch/Description strategy

When you upsell a product, you do not leave things to the customer’s imagination. You need to entice them with pictures, product description and benefits. Your description should justify the rationale of making this unplanned purchase. The deal must be well highlighted; the page should be free of clutter. This is because you hijacked the normal flow of the purchase from the thank you page. You do not want your offers to become a nuisance to your customers. You can customize your upsell funnels to look even more attractive to customers.

Reduction in upfront Cost

People often use price as a major determinant when selecting products. On your end, your price determines how much profit you earn. You can have a scenario where your backend offers are more profitable. In such cases, you can cut down the price of the main sale. You could even go as low as break-even price. This will help you capture the attention of a certain number of prospects. As they make their purchase, you give them backend offers they can’t resist. The idea is that you lured them to your store instead of your competitors. Then you made up for what would have been a loss through your backend offers.

Subscription purchase Strategy

Upselling subscription-based products are one of the ways to win buyer’s loyalty. You can up one-click upsell physical products, information products, membership or support. This is as easy as adding the ‘subscribe and save’ option in your one-click upsell page. This strategy gives you more access to the needs of your true audience.  It gives you a competitive advantage and increases your customers’ lifetime value.

Small business owners’ strategy

Is the upsell strategy the right choice for small business owners with low as spends? Yes, it is. You don’t have to wait for your business to grow bigger. You can make your upsell offers on low-dollar products. Now that’s another effective strategy. In that case, people don’t even have to overthink before accepting. After all, the products don’t cost so much. The products must, however, have a reasonable demand. This would increase their desirability and the effectiveness of your strategy.

Purchase protection strategy

Product warranties and support are yet another upsell that customers are most likely to accept. People get more satisfaction when their purchase investments are secure. The chances are higher with computers, software, cell phones, cars, and other appliances. When you sell a phone, upsell a phone case or screen protection. You can upsell lifetime updates of tools like video editing software. When the tool is updated, such buyers won’t have to pay full price for the update. You can upsell consulting, premium support and VIP membership to customers. If the offer makes them more secure and satisfied, they will take it.

Step 3: Upsell Funnel Creation

Remember that the one-click upsell funnel is usually after the checkout page. You create the funnel based on the product, amounts spent and so on. The rule is, if the buyer purchases X, then this funnel for the transaction. These rules may include conditions such as attributes of customers, geography, date and time. You select the product then enter the details of the offer.

What makes up an Upsell funnel? Remember the types of upselling funnel offers; upsells and downsell offers. Let’s start the journey from the main order.

The Main Offer

The main offer is what attracts your prospects before they decide to patronize you. Usually, it’s the set of best-selling products on your site that serve as the main offer. The main offer of products are very strategic and must be handled as such. Your product adverts are usually meant to direct traffic to your main offers. The price must give you a competitive advantage so more buyers come to your site. The main offer must have the ability to attract prospects that will close sales. This puts your one-click upsell motive on track.

The Upsell Offer

This is the offer you present to the buyer of the main offer. It is presented after submission of card details is made. Instead of the thank you page, you present the one-click upsell offer. This is your chance to increase the average order value of your customer. For this upsell to generate the required result, you must understand your buyer. The peculiar needs of the buyers of products must be clearly understood. If the main order is a smartphone then the buyer should need a case or screen protector. If the buyer wants suede shoes, there may be a need for a shoe spray. The customer has the choice of accepting or rejecting your upsell offer. If the upsell is rejected, what next?

The Downsell Offer

When a customer rejects an upsell offer, there is another opportunity to pitch a product. This is the downsell offer. The downsell offer is sometimes the upsell offer at a lower price or payment plan. It could also be a more affordable alternative of the upsell offer. The downsell offer depends on what was rejected. Be careful not to place the same product as the upsell and downsell offer. This act may translate a wrong impression on your buyers. The downsell is like your one chance to make that profit. Just like in real-life situations, you must use the opportunity well.

Step 4: Funnel Settings

You have to select the behavioural settings for every offer. What happens if the customer accepts or rejects an offer? If the user rejects the offer do you bring up a downsell offer or progress to payment?

Here’s a simple picture to guide your design;

  • After the checkout page of the main order, you offer your customer the first upsell. The customer may accept or reject.
  • If the customer accepts you can either show the second upsell or direct them to the thank you page.
  • You can have as many funnels as possible. However, the more funnels you have, the more of a nuisance they become. Most times, funnels are limited to three to stay safe.
  • Are your funnels arranged according to priority? A priority funnel often serves as a trigger.
  • There has to be a system to confirm when an upsell order is charged. The order status, confirmation email, tracking and analytics features should be configured.
  • Tracking and analytics feature will show you how much upsell revenue each funnel has generated. It can provide stats on the funnels with the highest conversions. On the other side, you can see the least effective funnel.

Step 5: Customization Of Offers

You can change the design and outlook of the offers in your funnels to suit your specifications. There are sets of pre-designed templates you can use (if you use UpStroke). You also have the option of building a custom page by changing the colour, fonts and sizes. The aim of this is to entice customers and increase user experience.

The Dont’s Of One-Click Upselling

One-click upselling has its very positive sides but if done wrong, it has negative consequences. It can be a negative user experience. It can emanate into a turn-off from your site and may lead to negative user reviews. So here are the simple rules;

  • Do not upsell a product that much more expensive than the main order. The customers are working with a budget which is usually related to their main purchase. You should not attempt to take them far off their limits.
  • Don’t try to upsell an item that offers the exact thing as the main order. Unless you are offering a discount for bulk purchase. For instance; a customer ordered a face cream from a certain brand. Then you try to upsell a similar cream from another brand. You can offer them face masks or scrubs to complement the cream.
  • Never upsell a product that’s always available on your site at the same price. This means there is no urgency in its offer. An element of scarcity or urgency is required to make your offer relevant.
  • Do not upsell without profit consideration. If an upsell is not going to increase your profitability, it’s not worth it.
  • It’s totally wrong to upsell a product that has nothing to do with the initial order. You cannot upsell a camera to a customer purchasing health supplements. Such an upsell is a complete nuisance to the customer. What happened to selling at discounts for bulk purchase or other related products?
  • Finally, do not upsell a product that is a critical component of the main order. That means, without the upsell the main order is more or less obsolete.

How To Create A One-Click Upsell With UpStroke

Now that we know what a one-click upsell is and why we should use them it is time to create one.

You need to have a WooCommerce store and the UpStroke plugin.

This plugin is absolutly fantastic. You can create as many Upsells and Downsells as you like and you can create multiple funnels. You can track the performance of each funnel and offer.

With the ruler builder you can create rules when to show a funnel/offers based on the main product.

You can create offers in minutes with the predefined templates.

For this tutorial, I will be creating a One-Click Upsell for my DiviShop design. You don’t need to have this design in order to follow this tutorial.

Note: you need to have this product created in WooCommerce.

When you have added your product you can set a discounted price (1). You will see the discounted price here (2)

Under settings (3) you have additional options for this offer. For example don’t show this offer if it is part of the main offer.

Before I will be explaining on how you can create an order bump, let’s start with explaining what an order bump is and why you should use them for your WooCommerce store.

This tutorial is the first part of our WooCommerce Sales Funnel Series.

Woocommerce sales funnel order bump

Already know what an order bump is? Jump right to the step by step tutorial.

What Is An Order Bump?

An order bump is an experience that almost everyone has encountered once in a while. For example when you go to a McDonalds and order a burger.

It is the additional question that comes with your burger request when the seller asked if you would like some fries and cola with your order.

However, when it comes to purchasing online, it is the additional products added to your order to increase the value of what you are getting.

The order bump is placed on the checkout page just before the payout button. The order bump we will be creating later on looks like this.

What is an order bump?

Effectiveness of Order Bump

Order bumps are useful because if a customer just finished purchasing goods, only before they complete the transaction or about to pay or click the buy button. You can hand them a customized offer or advert card for an additional item they may need

For instance, a customer that buys a pair of footwear or software tool. You can give the customer a customized shoe protector spray polish or offer them training and installation as an order bump.

Giving an order bump should enhance the usage of the item a customer is getting from you. In the case of the software, nobody would want to get something that they will not be able to use.

The additional personal benefit the bump order has on the product is what makes them irresistible.

Another instance is seen when a customer wants to buy a guitar. It will be wise to offer them a customized higher quality guitar string, guitar bags, or any other customized item that will give them a fantastic feeling when playing the guitar.  It will make them want to come to your enterprises again.

However, a lot of customers are impetuous buyers, so presenting such items gives them more reason to purchase your products.

Order Bump Vs Upsell

Although Order Bump and Upsell gives additional items to their customers, they also have differentiating features.

Because of purchase, Order Bump usually comes on the order form before the final purchase and checkout. It comes in the form of a click-box or requesting the customer to add the product that matches with the product at the checkout page.

One-Click Upsell, on the other hand, reflects after the customer has finalized the purchase redirecting the customer to a new checkout page offering a product with more value.

Benefits of Order Bumps

The importance of order bump are:

  • Adds to the Normal Value of Items Adding more items to the main items of the request helps to increase the value of the purchase. It also increases the number of purchased items.
  • Increases Engagement It allows you to showcase more items related to the product to customers, thereby increasing the overall engagement of customers to the product.
  • Makes shopping easier A customer doesn’t have to start searching for product accessories as everything is made available on a single page.

Order Bump Examples

Order bump can be used in diverse ways to numb the value of your order. However, in the e-commerce store, you can use bump order to:

Create a Matching or Add-on Product/Service

Additional products are items that give more value to the actual product. For instance, if a customer buys a physical copy of your book, you can choose to offer them the electronic or audio model of that book at a lower price. The electronic or audio copy is not compulsory, but it will help boost the value of the original product.

Enable Instant Delivery Service

When dealing with tangible products, you can choose to give immediate delivery and shipment of products at a higher price as number order. This method is beneficial as a lot of people would want fast access to their order.

Provide Membership Option

As a seller that has membership programs- such as free shipping, discount products, private group invite, etc., on your website. You can offer these programs to customers using the order bump.

Give Product Warranty

Very costly items can be provided on the warranty because if it will save customers the pain of incurring more expense. This is an excellent measure for using bump order.

Go for Upgrade

This type of order bump makes previous products better. For instance, if a customer buys a lower model phone brand, you can give them a higher version as an order bump.

How To Create An Order Bump?

Now that we know what an order bump is and why we should use them it is time to create one.

You can make here a custom description for your order bump (2).

Add text and style your order bump

In the skin tab you can choose an additional skin and in the style tab you are able to change the colors
